The highlight of this year’s SEAT Leon Supercopa was shaped by the weather and young Pole Michael Slomian. For the second year already, SONAX is series sponsor of the fast brand trophy and visible on all racing cars’ windscreens. This year, the racing series will be run on eight racing weekends, mostly as format of DTM. The qualifying run on the Nuerburgring Nordschleife, held in the scope of the 39th ADAC Zurich 24h Race, was tough. Despite the strong rain, Slomian managed to finish the four laps first with slicks. The young Frank Elia Erhart came in fourth and, holding 93 points, drove as overall leader to his home race on the Norisring. Here, all drivers needed to prepare for completely different circuit characteristics: heat, extreme acceleration and heavy braking manoeuvres challenge both pilots and their cars between Dutzendteich and Grundigkehre. “Now I dream of a home victory.” In the first race, Erhart came off third: “I am very happy to finally have got on the podium in Nuremberg. It is a pity that I did not achieve more.”
But in the second race, Elia Erhart managed to complete the masterpiece: he won his home race and now leads the table with 127 points. “For me this was a dream race and a dream weekend. Now I need some time to let this success sink in, and then, from 5th to 7th August, I will be ready to attack again.”
The SEAT Leon Supercopa is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TSI turbocharged engine with 300 HP. The six-speed DSG gearbox with extremely short change times, operated by rocker switches on the steering wheel, allows rapid acceleration out of the curves and is exactly adjusted to the engine’s characteristics. A different version of this gearbox is available for the SEAT Leon street version. Together with the differential lock, the aerodynamics package comprising front splitter, flat underbody, rear diffuser and adjustable rear spoiler ensures extremely high speed in curves.
