17.03.2011 SONAX presented with „Axia Award“ 2010

The economic consultancy firm Deloitte has presented the SONAX GmbH with the „Axia Award 2010“ for special strength in innovation.

Munich 20th January 2011 – the jury was especially impressed with the culture of innovation at SONAX GmbH. “By addressing the customers directly as well as through the complaint management customer requests are continuously identified. Additional vital driving forces for innovations are the employees, the management, but also the competition and suppliers”, explained the jury in its statement. This is backed up by basic research. At the SONAX GmbH the innovation processes are organizationally anchored: In the “ideas workshop”, established specifically for this purpose, according to the jury, there are lively informal discussions between employees and external experts. It further states: “An intranet platform enables every employee to actively contribute their ideas, and to permanently establish this generation of ideas. In order to effectively promote the exchange of ideas between employees, and to eliminate jealousy as far as possible, emoluments for innovative ideas have been intentionally dispensed with. Short and open communication channels ensure that ideas can be presented in a straightforward manner”.

Three more award winners

As well as SONAX, three more medium-sized Bavarian companies were presented with the “Axia Award 2010” for pioneering innovative strength. Further awards went to the photovoltaic manufacturer Gehrlicher Solar, to the electronics manufacturer Zollner Elektronik and to the manufacturers of high frequency technology equipment Rosenberger Hochfrequenztechnik. The jury selected two award winners from the two categories (innovation culture – success factor for middle sized companies, with the customer to the future – from the customer idea to the innovation). Parallel to the competition, the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich conducted the study “The small business as idea workshop”, which was presented by Prof. Dr. Anja Tuschke. The prize giving of the coveted Axia Awards was the second of six regional awards.

“In the matter of innovation, mid tier companies are a driving force, on both the national and international level. Mid tier enterprises in Germany know how to assert themselves against competition from larger companies through the implementation of innovative concepts like idea workshops and training centres. The particular strength of the mid tier enterprise is its long term customer retention, which it skilfully uses to its own advantage”, explains Klaus Löffler, partner at Deloitte.

Elaborate application process

„Axia“ is classical Greek for “value”, but can also mean “ability” and “success”. The applicants must demonstrate that they possess all three of these characteristics. Consultants from Deloitte examined the companies first with the aid of a questionnaire and then held personal interviews with the applicants. With the aid of these evaluations the jury, headed by Dr. Hannes Zapf, managing director of the Zapf KG, selected the four winners. Other members were Prof. Dr. Anja Tuschke of Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, Claus Schmalholz, Financial Times Germany, Klaus Löffler and Gerhard Reiser, both of Deloitte.
