Clean the paintwork just like professionals

Hansüli E. from Zurich asks: “Recently I saw in a professional car valeting company, that some sort of plasticine was being used for cleaning the paintwork. Could you tell me what was the product used?

Reply:
The product is a so-called clay, also called “cleaning clay”. The SONAX XTREME Spray & clay is available in any well stocked specialist retail outlet. The set consists of the cleaning clay and a special cleaning spray. SONAX XTREME Spray & clay is ideal for cleaning paintwork, painted plastic components and glass surfaces quickly, easily and very thoroughly. The product is deployed after the carwash, when it comes to dealing with the “problem cases”, such as removing tar stains, rust film, insect residues or tree sap. After spraying on the cleaning spray, the clay is used to simply rub off all surface dirt. The dirt adheres firmly to the clay, and can no longer harm the paintwork. The clay is kept in a re-sealable PE-box and can be used repeatedly. After cleaning a paintwork surface the paint will once again require polish or wax protection.

It seems confusing to many motorists, when a winter windscreen cleaner claims to provide freeze protection at minus 60 degrees. In our latitudes it is a rare occurrence to see the thermometer standing at -20 degrees Celsius. Such freeze protection figures are therefore, misleading. Incidentally, these cleaners would be so viscous, even at -40 degrees Celsius, that they could hardly be conveyed through the windscreen washer system.
