Occupational Safety and Health Protection Policy

1. Subject

SONAX GmbH takes its responsibility seriously to actively contribute to the health of all employees. We want every single employee, both our own and external staff, to return home healthy every day. Since our behavior, both internally and externally, serves as an example, occupational health and safety starts in the mind. Therefore, based on our many years of experience, we have developed simple rules that are designed to motivate every employee of SONAX GmbH to implement our goals.

2. Scope

The occupational health and safety guidelines apply to:

  • All employees of SONAX GmbH

  • All locations and facilities of SONAX GmbH

  • All relationships with business partners of SONAX GmbH

The occupational health and safety guidelines are addressed to all internal and external stakeholders – employees, business partners, suppliers, customers, authorities, society, the scientific community, as well as banks, insurance companies, and external service providers or business partners working for SONAX GmbH.

3. Objectives of Health and Safety Management

The understanding of occupational health and safety management is based on the following success factors:

  • The long-term assurance of safety and health for all employees.

  • Creating a safe and healthy work environment.

4. Principles of Health and Safety Management

Occupational health and safety management is firmly embedded in the company's strategy, culture, and everyday work environment. The occupational health and safety principles of SONAX GmbH are based on providing safe and health-conscious working conditions to prevent injuries and illnesses.

To continue living and expanding these principles, we adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Compliance with legal requirements

  • Active risk minimization

  • Continuous improvement of the occupational health and safety management system

  • Active involvement of employees in the strategic direction of the company.

5. Health and Safety Management

Employees, Leadership Responsibility and Initiative

Physical safety and health are very high values. Therefore, safety and health protection are given due importance at our company, making everyone a role model for safety and health through their behavior. This is demonstrated by the management as an important task for our leaders and passed on to the employees of SONAX GmbH.

We aim to achieve the following goals in the areas of employees, leadership responsibility, and initiative:

  • Accident rate per 1 million working hours < Accident rate per 1 million working hours of BG RCI (SONAX / BG RCI ratio)

  • Reduction of the LTIR metric1 to < 3.5 in the 5-year average (2031-2035)

  • Striving for zero serious accidents

  • Development of the occupational safety culture

Occupational Health Care and Preventive Health Protection

  • SONAX GmbH is committed to providing occupational health care for its employees, aiming to protect and promote their health and well-being.

  • Regular health check-ups and preventive measures (e.g., vaccinations, etc.) are offered to detect and minimize potential health risks at an early stage. These are conducted by the company physician.

  • SONAX GmbH ensures that injuries, accidents, and illnesses are avoided through personalized and high-quality personal protective equipment (e.g., prescription safety glasses).

  • Workplaces are assessed and optimized based on ergonomic principles (e.g., height-adjustable desks, high-quality office chairs, etc.).

  • When planning, aspects of occupational health and safety are taken into account, particularly when selecting external contractors.

  • We take responsibility for monitoring and controlling equipment and processes through regular workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments.

Education and Training

  • Safety and health protection are integral parts of our training objectives to promote safety-conscious work from the very beginning.

  • For our employees, qualified and awareness-raising measures in the field of safety and health protection (trainings, workshops, further education, etc.) are regularly coordinated and conducted by the respective department. Examples include first aid courses, fire safety training, driver safety training, and health awareness days.

Information and Communication

  • We answer questions from our stakeholders openly and honestly. When selecting our suppliers, we ensure, within the scope of our capabilities, that responsibility for occupational health and safety is appropriately considered.

  • Articles on occupational health and safety topics are regularly published in the company newspaper "WIR," which serves to communicate current issues across the organization.

  • SONAX GmbH promotes interactive idea management, thereby fostering an open and transparent communication culture.

Resources and Product Development

  • We provide the necessary personnel, financial, and time resources required for occupational health and safety.

  • In the long term, a location can only succeed if it operates economically. This includes the prevention of accidents, damages, and losses.

  • For new raw materials, products, and production processes, we take occupational health and safety requirements into account as early as the development and testing phase.

6. Declaration of Commitment

Occupational Health and Safety is an essential part of the company's strategy and culture. Responsibility for the implementation of directives lies with the HSSE department and the management. Success largely depends on the commitment of all employees, who are thoroughly informed, trained, and actively involved in implementation.These guidelines are reviewed annually by the HSSE management, updated as necessary, and approved during the strategy retreat.
